Established in 1986 27 Years of Training and Boarding

The Facility:

The 7 acre barn in Lake Oswego may not be the largest or the most fancy but being a 20 stall facility has its advantage.  We live on the property and have responsible attendants 24/7.  Our home and business is truly a family operation.  We know the personalities and habits of each horse.  Our board includes:

  • Hay
  • Grain
  • Daily turn-out
  • Stalls Cleaned 2 x daily
  • Handling for Vet and Farrier
  • Blanketing

BOARD  $600.00

We take care of your horses as we do our own.

The Training:

Husband and wife team Darrel Purdy and Michelle Ives-Purdy combine their strengths to offer their students a comprehensive program defining the aid system and following the training scale to move up the levels on happy, confident horses.  Our trainer and students have won State, Regional and National Championships.
Darrel and Michelle were voted ODS Trainers of the year in 2006.

Sherwood Girl and her IDEAL in the NEWS!

Sherwood resident awarded “4-H Horse Member of the Year”

(Picture Coming)

At the annual awards banquet in McMinnville, one of our local 4-H members was awarded the “Horse Member of the year”.  Lauren “Rachel” Labant has been involved with her group, the Fir Hollow Equestrian Team, for over 8 years.  She has held several offices including President for the last two years.   Miss Labant is a senior at Sherwood High School and also competes with the Oregon High School Equestrian Team and FFA.

She rides her Oldenburg horse, Infinite Grace, aka Gracie for 4-H and OHSET.  They compete in dressage, hunter/jumper, equitation, gaming and team penning.   Miss Labant was nominated by her 4-H Leader, Teri Stephens, who states, “She is an outstanding role model for our younger youth within our club and has also received much praise for her willingness to help other youths at county fair. She has been  a very important part of our team since the group began.”

Besides serving as President of her own group, she is a Junior Superintendant for Yamhill county.   She has been accepted to Oregon State University and aspires to become and equine veterinarian & practice at Churchill Downs.

CONGRATULATIONS!

FEI Rider, Virginia Allen and I Candy win first show at Thunderbird in Canada!

I Candy was amazing and scored 72.85% which was first out of over 40 horses! Virginia reports I Candy won the High Score award of the day. She says, it was probably the best Training level test that I have ever ridden on any horse. "Candy" she was out of the Ultimate Piaffee's  Hannoverian mare Catinka. The 17+ chestnut mare earned premium status this past summer by the ISR/Oldenburg. She is a full sister to one of Darrel's favorite horses, Ingo's Katze owned by Melissa and Charlotte Haines.

More information and the letter to Michelle is online at Michelle's website at Michelle Ives-Purdy

SEPTEMBER 2010

I Candy Scores Big at BC Dressage Championships in Vancouver

Here's an UPDATE from Virginia! Allen!

I just got home and couldn't wait to let you know that I Candy and I went to the BC Dressage Championships in Vancouver and did very well. I still am feeling slightly shocked actually. She won both her tests on the warm up day with a 70.400% and a 75.714%. The judge was Joan Macartney. She said "lovely horse- ridden actively forward- shows good swing through the back- a pleasing picture" and "love that swing through the back, fluid and rhythmic" The next day we had Hilda Gurney and scored 71.600% and 74.643%. Second place was 65% and I Candy won both tests again. She told me in person that she was a talented horse and she didn't see many as good and that I should be thrilled with her! (I am!) Today the pressure was on and everyone was watching her. We had Joan Macartney again and I Candy came up big for me. Two more firsts 73.648% and 76.071% with a "9" for her canter. The scribe said that she almost gave it a "10" but I'm not complaining! Southlands has a very electric atmosphere and I almost didn't enter the show because of it. I'm glad I did! She had lost of wonderful compliments all weekend and we're so proud of her!

Ellen Guthrie and her Ideal named Jack (Ideal Life)

In the Beginner Novice Rider Amateur Division Ellen Guthrie (See related story and photo below) on Ideal Life won the Division with a score of 26.5.! The Dressage score was 26.5 with a double clear in both Cross Country and Stadium Jumping.

There were 29 entries from riders all over the country.

Ellen sent us this great e-mail:

Hi,
Yes, It was an amazing week... .. He is such an incredible guy...I was either crying or smiling with joy......  I wish I had had an Ultimate Piaffe flag or saddle pad or something to wave and wear.!!!! But I told his story over and over to both the Chronicle of the Horse interview, the US eventing mag and the video which is on the www.useventing.com  website. (home page, left side, 3rd or 4th interview).
I get sooooo many compliments on him when I am just hacking about also.. He was quite funny prior to our SJ round.. I had braided him, groomed his tail etc,,, Then I ran back to my trailer to get dressed, one last talk with my trainer and when I returned to his stall to tack up he was flat out snoring sound asleep, .. then when I get him "up", he sits like a dog for about 1 min... He used to do this all the time as a 2 yr old.. I start laughing so hard.. So needless to say he wasn't at all stressed out about being in 1st prior to SJ... LOL
Thank you again for bringing Ideal into my life...
Ellen

UP:  "You are welcome and thanks for the neat story and kind words."

Earlier we reported ...

Karen Writes:

Here are some highlight jumps of the year for In The Money BCF.  We had limited outings, but Ishy was champion and even double-champion almost every time out, consistently at 1.20m, 1.25m, even up to 1.30m.  Fingers crossed for our Grand Prix Debut in 2010 ~ will let you know.  He REALLY garnered a TON of attention and admiration the last two weeks of August in Wilsonville with his amazing jumping efforts.
